Celebration of National Day in 15th August 2018 at Embassy of India in Brasília

A national day reception was hosted at Embassy of India in Brasilia in the evening of 15th August 2018 to mark the 72nd Independence of India. The event was attended by around 300 people, which included Mr. Vinicius Lummertz, Brazilian Minister of Tourism. Others dignitaries present were representatives of political parties; senior officials of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government departments of Brazil; Ambassadors and members of diplomatic corps; media personnel; prominent Indian nationals and Indian Diaspora residing in Brasilia. At the start of the event, national anthems of both India and Brazil were played. Ambassador welcomed the guests and spoke on the friendly and cordial relations between India and Brazil. Ambassador mentioned on India’s achievements as the biggest democracy and India’s contribution to world peace. He touched upon the impressive strides India has made in high technology areas viz space, nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, nano-technology, clean energy as also Government of India’s ambitious programmes like Make in India, Skill India and Digital India. A glimpse of rich Indian culture in the form of Odissi dance and an ensemble of Sitar, Tabla and Tampura were presented by talented Brazilian artists. Typical Indian cuisine were served during the event. The highlight of the events were presentation of Odisi dance by Devadassi, chanting mantras by Raq Rosa dos Ventos, Indian songs by Samuel Lilla, Jay Krishna and Lucas de Castro and some popular Brazilian songs with a touch of Indian rhythm. A gift bag containing Indian tourism promotion material and incense sticks were handed over to the guests at the end of the event.
